This blog is intended to be about my real life now – which I estimate to be my Real Life Number 9. That’s realife as distinct from my online life, which has been quite extensive over the last ten years.
Real Life Number 9 is as an adult literacy teacher, for a non-profit organisation, in an English speaking country.
When you get to my age, you feel as though you have lived at least several lives.
And, because I have moved around quite a bit… lived in different countries, and pursued various professional and personal interests, I certainly feel as though some of the various lives of mine are quite distinct from each other, and quite distinct from who I am now, I suppose…..
I do not intend this blog to be a dry academic place, where I hold forth on relevant research, literacy statistics, teaching methodologies or lifelong learning (except inasmuch as I can’t help myself from being a lifelong learner) .
Nor do I intend it to be a communal sort of place, where similarly-occupied people share our thoughts on these aspects of the job…although, if that happens, that’s just fine. It’s just not my current purpose. LATER NOTE, December 2008: Now that I have been doing this blog for a year, I just checked back here to see what it is ‘About’, and I feel the need to change the statement above. I would very much like it, if more people share their thoughts about our work here – It’s just that, at the outset, I didn’t expect it……….So: PLEASE DO contribute.
My purpose is to have a place – this blog - where I can articulate my daily or weekly achievements, satisfactions, disappointments and certainly frustrations, in my current work of teaching adults.
Thanks for visiting, and hope to ’see you’ again.
